South Australian Music Camp

COVID-19 Statement

We write to provide information regarding the live audition process scheduled to take place mid-May, and the Music Camp event occurring early July.

The government announcement of the restriction on indoor gatherings of 100 people or more, and the recommendation to maintain social distancing will inevitably have an impact on our auditions in May, and most likely the rehearsals and concert in July.  In addition, the current travel bans in force affect two of our conductors coming from interstate and overseas to South Australia.

Considering these restrictions on our activities and the advanced planning required to stage an event such as this, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 SA Music Camp.

Applicants who have paid the audition fee will be contacted in due course by our Treasurer who will provide a full refund.

We are all genuinely saddened to cancel the Music Camp however as the situation with respect to COVID-19 continues to evolve, the health and safety of absolutely everyone remains our highest priority.

We thank you for your support of this wonderful institution now in its 58th year and we’ll continue to stay in communication as the situation develops in the ensuing months.

We look forward to your participation in the future.

Sincerely
Committee of the SA Music Camp Association Inc.

About our Music Camp

  • State Music Camp offers instrumentalists from the age of nine to twenty three years an opportunity to play in one of five ensembles which cater for a wide range of ages, standards and levels of experience.

  • Daily routine includes a mixture of tutorials with specialist tutors, and rehearsals with leading conductors.

  • All ensembles perform in a final concert on the Friday night.

Memorial Hall Our camps have been an outstanding success musically, educationally and socially. The students put in a great effort and are rewarded with a magnificent concert to conclude Camp. Many thanks to all those who contribute so ably to this fantastic event. Our thanks to all the parents, relatives and friends who attend the final concert. Your children and all involved in SA Music Camp enjoy your support.

The South Australian Music Camp Association Inc. was formed in 1962 to provide young instrumentalists with an opportunity to play in orchestras, and has operated every year since then. Music Camp has for a long time become an integral part of the lives of young South Australian musicians. It is interesting to note that campers from an earlier generation often keep in touch with the movement, either as proud parents of keen young campers, or sometimes as tutors and conductors.

The value of State Music Camp is recognised by placing young players in a stimulating environment where they tackle and master challenging and enjoyable repertoire, and succeed in presenting an exciting final concert to parents and friends. What is achieved in one week is nothing short of miraculous. Campers are tutored by experienced professional musicians and conductors who are chosen for their empathy with young performers. The success of State Music Camp is clearly evident by the number of well-established performers and teachers in our community who acknowledge the valuable part that Music Camp, State and National, has played in their own musical lives.

The South Australian Music Camp Association Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation which offers students the opportunity to strive for excellence in music by participation in one of the five ensembles during camp week. The organisational team volunteer many hours of their time and are truly dedicated to the youth music movement in South Australia.
